Websites built for Port Hardy and the North Island.

The end of the highway and the start of the Inside Passage, so a site here has to work for locals and for people passing through.

Building for Port Hardy, North Vancouver Island, BC

Port Hardy is the service town for the North Island, with the BC Ferries terminal at Bear Cove for the Inside Passage run to Prince Rupert, commercial fishing and aquaculture, and the trails at Cape Scott and the North Coast Trail. A site here has two audiences: residents who already know you, and travellers deciding on a patchy signal, often the night before a sailing. I would put your hours, location and phone number at the top of every page, and keep the pages light enough to load on a weak connection.

Work directly with a Vancouver Island developer

I work out of Ucluelet, at the other end of Vancouver Island, so we would talk by phone or video and handle revisions by email. Port Hardy and the west coast share a pattern: a busy season, and visitors who check you on a phone before they arrive.

Port Hardy questions

Most of my customers are passing through on the way to the ferry. Does that change the site?

It changes the priorities. Someone arriving the night before a sailing wants your hours, your location and a way to book or call, all on a phone, so those go at the top of every page, and the pages are built to load fast on a weak signal rather than to show off.

Can one site cover Port McNeill and the rest of the North Island too?

Yes. A lot of Port Hardy businesses serve the whole Mount Waddington region, and the site can be written around every community you work in, rather than pretending your customers all live inside town limits.

Do you offer local SEO for Port Hardy, not just the website itself?

Yes. For a North Island business the work covers two groups: residents searching nearby, and travellers planning a ferry crossing or a Cape Scott trip from somewhere else. Acuity Local SEO is from $149/month on a 3-month first term, and no one can guarantee rankings.
